Radio Golden 0005 – May 4, 2012: Charter Schools in Golden, tobacco licensing, Matt’s breakfast plans and more.

A scene from the Golden Community Garden.

Episode 5 is ready for listening. We talked about what’s happening at the community garden, what happened to the beltway (BEEP) bill, and the tobacco measure that just passed city council, among other things. Then, we had a really interesting interview with a Golden public charter school principal in what is probably our most controversial interview to date. Jami Boarman, principal of Free Horizon Montessori, explained her views on practices used in public education, talked about why charter schools are important—and discussed the idea that money might not be the answer for solving many of the biggest problems facing schools.

On this episode you’ll hear:

  • 1:30 An update on the death of the plow-the-beltway-through-Golden bill at the State Legislature.
  • 2:24 New licensing rules in Golden regarding the sale of tobacco products.
  • 4:01 Redistricting for the State House and State Senate districts.
  • 4:52 City Council update: Planning Commission’s 2012-2013 Work Plan, new online collaboration tool for Planning Commission, neighborhood plans, form-based codes, and more.
  • 6:40 Chat with Jami Boarman, retiring principle of Free Horizon Montessori.
  • 29:11 “Getting Involved”
  • 30:32 “The Mailbag””
  • 31:24 “Community Chatter”
